H*d Vs B(K)*d
Disclaimer : This is a result of watching some boring Indian Cinema for the past few weekends. The author of the post(who’s all for the creativity *air quote*)would like to express her choler on the ape culture followed in most movie productions.
As I was watched Night-Out on TV,I mused why Indian Film Industry failed to interest me as much as the Big H did .What’s it that Hollywood has, that Bollywood doesn’t (I’m pretty sure the answer to this is a non-exhaustive list).
#1 on the list was the lack of genres in Indian cinema. As far as my memory fetches,I only remember seeing movies that had a blend of 3 to 4 of the genres(masala) like drama(family moments-watch Kabhi kush kabhi gham, you’ll see 😛 ),romance(hero & heroine) action (stunts by the villain who plans to woo the heroine) sprinkled with a bit a cheesy comedy(which could be a separate timeline on the movie).I feel that this coercion is majorly accountable for the débâcle. The one-many(1 movie->many genres) mapping methodology should cease if we are to improve.Compared to this,Hollywood flicks stick to a particular(/minimal) genre(s) and beautifully finish the job.At the end of the movie you can’t help admiring the way the movie was made!
There’s no doubt as to which industry has the upper hand when it comes to creativity, awesomeness and the big bucks..
Before making absurd claims about Bollywood and it originality or its popularity compared to Hollywood. How about first coming up with an original name for Indian film industry?
